How to download a Vimeo video
- Copy the link On vimeo.com, copy the address bar or use Share → Copy link. On a phone, tap Share, then Copy link.
- Paste it above Press Get video. The page lists every quality the video has, with the size of each file.
- Choose and save Pick a quality and press Save MP4. Your browser fetches picture and sound from Vimeo and joins them into one file in your downloads.
What you get
An ordinary MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, at any size the uploader made available: 4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p and smaller. It plays in QuickTime, Windows Media Player, VLC and on any phone, and keeps the original frame rate.
The same video also gives you its sound alone as an M4A file, every subtitle track the owner added as an SRT file, and the cover image at full size.
Why your browser does the joining
Vimeo streams picture and sound as two separate tracks, in short pieces. To give you one file, something has to fetch both and put them back together. savevimeo does that inside your browser: the pieces travel from Vimeo’s servers to your computer and nowhere else.
Our server only reads the video’s public page to find out which qualities exist. It never receives the video, never stores it, and has no size limit of its own. Long 4K videos are large, so keep the tab open until the save finishes.
Videos that can’t be saved
Private and password-protected videos, videos that only play on their owner’s website, live events, and Vimeo On Demand rentals and purchases. These are protected by their owners, and savevimeo stops rather than looking for a way around.
Questions
Is savevimeo free?
Yes. There is no account, no limit on the number of videos, no watermark and no ads.
What is the highest quality I can save?
Whatever the uploader made available, up to 4K. The list under the video shows every size with the file it will make.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. On iPhone the file goes to the Files app, under Downloads. Very large 4K files can be too big for a phone’s memory; the page tells you when, and a smaller quality will work.
Can I save an unlisted video?
Yes, with its full link, including the part after the video number. Without it, Vimeo treats the video as not found.
Can I save only the sound?
Yes. Sound · M4A saves the audio track as Vimeo streams it, without re-encoding.
Why does a 4K video take a while?
A five-minute 4K film can be 750 MB. The time depends on your connection, because the whole file comes from Vimeo to your browser.
Is it legal to download Vimeo videos?
Save videos you made, videos the owner allows you to download, and videos you have permission to keep. Respect the creator’s rights and Vimeo’s terms; savevimeo does not save protected videos.
